D’Luca Tonmeister 400 Ebony Fitted Cello Outfit 7/8 Size with Bow and Gig Bag

I play in a community orchestra and picked this up as a spare instrument to keep at home while my primary cello stays at our rehearsal space. For the price I honestly wasn't expecting much but this cello really delivers. The build quality is solid — flamed maple back, spruce top, and the ebony fingerboard and pegs all feel like quality materials. The varnish finish is attractive and applied evenly. Sound-wise it has a warm, resonant tone that opened up even more after I swapped out the factory strings for Helicores. The gig bag with backpack straps is surprisingly good — well padded and easy to carry. Shipping from PlayMusic123 was fast, arrived in about 4 days. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the string action was a bit high when it arrived and needed a small adjustment at the nut, which is pretty common for new instruments. Nothing a luthier can't fix in 10 minutes. Overall very satisfied and would recommend to any intermediate student or adult player looking for a reliable backup instrument.

I teach private cello lessons and one of my intermediate students purchased this instrument after outgrowing her rental. I was skeptical at first since I've seen a lot of budget cellos that need significant work before they're playable. This one was a pleasant surprise. The spruce top has good responsiveness and the tone is warm and full-bodied — better than I expected at this price point. The ebony fittings are genuine ebony, not painted wood, which matters for durability. The carbon fiber tailpiece with integrated fine tuners is a practical touch that makes tuning much easier for students still developing their ear. The Mongolian horsehair bow is adequate for practice and lessons. I did have the student take it to a luthier for a quick bridge check and minor string height adjustment, which I recommend for any new instrument, but overall it was in very good shape out of the box. The 7/8 size is perfect for students between about 5'2" and 5'6". Good value, solid construction.

We bought this for our 13-year-old who just moved up to youth orchestra. She was on a 3/4 for two years and her teacher recommended a 7/8 before going full size. I was nervous ordering a cello online at this price point but I am really glad we did. The instrument arrived well packed and in perfect condition. The flamed maple back and sides look gorgeous in person — the photos on the website actually don't do it justice. The reddish-brown varnish has a really warm, classic look to it. Her teacher checked it over at the next lesson and said the setup was good and the tone was strong for a student instrument. The ebony fingerboard feels smooth under the fingers and the four fine tuners on the tailpiece made it easy to get in tune right away. The gig bag is padded and has backpack straps which is huge for getting it to school. Overall this is a fantastic outfit for the price — bow, rosin, and bag all included. Highly recommend.
